Winter in the Basque Country is not just about celebrations and traditions: it is also an opportunity to enjoy the region's mountains and ski resorts to the full. With fresh snow, magnificent landscapes and a friendly atmosphere, young and old alike will find plenty to enjoy and recharge their batteries.

Must-see ski resorts

  • La Pierre Saint-Martin : Located less than 50 km from our shop, this resort offers 45 km of slopes for all levels. It is ideal for families, with beginner areas and fun activities such as sledging, snowshoeing, dog sledding and fat biking. It also has a Nordic area for nature lovers and winter sports enthusiasts, with activities such as cross-country skiing, alternative skiing and skating. The highlight: the view of the Pic d'Anie from the Boulevard des Pyrénées slope!
  • Artouste : Nestled in the Ossau Valley, Artouste is a small ski resort ideal for a quiet day in the snow, far from the crowds. It offers accessible slopes and magnificent winter hiking trails in the heart of the forest. The highlight: its wellness area with a breathtaking view of the Pic du Midi d'Ossau at an altitude of 2,000 metres for an unusual relaxation experience. Enjoy spa and sauna sessions to soothe your body and mind, and discover the benefits of complete relaxation in the heart of nature.
  • Gourette : Located near the Artouste resort, it remains a family resort but is a little more technical than its counterpart in the Baretous Valley: La Pierre Saint Martin. In addition to downhill skiing, there are many other snow activities to enjoy. Sledging, dog sled rides, zip-lining, snowshoeing and winter canyoning will allow you to enjoy new experiences and leave with wonderful memories. You can also try your hand at solving the mystery of the ‘Dameuse Escape Game’!

Activities to discover with family or friends

  • Snowshoeing and winter hiking: explore the mountains and snow-covered nature for a total immersion in the Pyrenean landscapes.
  • Sledging and skiing for children: specially adapted areas allow younger children to learn winter sports in complete safety.
  • Markets and local products: take a gourmet break to discover the Basque terroir, from cheeses to pâtés and homemade dishes.

Although the mountains are synonymous with winter sports and wide open spaces, winter in the Basque Country is also an opportunity to enjoy cosy moments around good food. After a day on the slopes, there's nothing like a delicious veal axoa served with steamed potatoes, which you can find on our website.
